This talk is about ANS and the patent vultures it has attracted. The ANS coding family, which in recent years is replacing Huffman and arithmetic coding in data compressors, is currently used, for example, in the Linux kernel, default DNA compression, products of Apple, Facebook, Google, and many others like JPEG XL.
